Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe

The Jungfrau Joch Railway has been a pioneering project in the development of the Alps. There have been many ideas and projects – but the one that finally became reality was the plan from Adolf Guyer-Zeller.

On July 27 1896 the construction of the Jungfrau railway started. The railway that is mainly in the mountain goes up from the Kleine Scheidegg (2,064 meters above sea level) to the Jungfraujoch (3,454 meters above sea level). The construction was done part by part. First to Rotstock then the North Wall of Eiger stop (1903), the Eismeer (1905) and finally in 1912 the Top of Europe was reached!

Taking a ride to the Jungfraujoch is a unique experience. Normally you start in Interlaken, Wilderswil, Lauterbrunnen or in Grindelwald. From there you will have train rides with unforgettable views, landscapes and you will just feel in another world. From the different stops of the Jungfrau railway, you enjoy views out of a mountain cliff into the untouched nature. Incredible. Then on top you can see the Jungfrau Aletsch Glacier -which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Swiss Alps.

All in all, this one is a must visit if you travel Switzerland and your budget allows it.
